The Nineteenth Century (1801-1900).

1804
THE MAN IN THE VELVET MASK
Aliens reconfigured Earth inside a pocket universe in order to experiment on "reality control". In this universe, the, rather different, Marquis de Sade ruled France with the help of dwarf scientist Minski whilst Satanist king "Mad George Hannover" of England was planning to invade France. This universe was ended by the Doctor and Dodo.
The date is on page 14.

1805

Admiral Nelson wins the battle of Trafalgar.

The year of this battle is mentioned in The Murder Game on page 64.

8th April 1809

Joseph Sundvik is born.

The Curse of Fenric.

Lord Aldbourne creates his own version of the Hell Fire Club in Devil's End. He and his friends play at devil worship aided by doxies from London and lots of laudanum. They frighten themselves into fits.

According to The Eight Doctors page 86 this was 'the early 19th Century'.

1810

The Doctor meets Byron at the Parthenon and critiques a poem Byron hasn't yet written.

Managra. This was during his first three incarnations. The date is never stated, but Byron was in Greece on the Grand Tour in this year.

1811

The Poet William Blake temporarily vanished.

The Pit.

1812

During the Peninsula War, the Doctor is with a British rifle brigade when he meets Sir Arthur Wellesley (aka the Duke of Wellington). He is also a prisoner of the French at Salamanca, where he meets Napoleon. He tells Napoleon that an army marches on its stomach. The War Lords kidnap a Napoleonic battlefield.

The meeting with Wellington is mentioned in The Devil Goblins from Neptune page 20, and is said to have been during the Peninsula War. The meeting with Napoleon is mentioned in The Devil Goblins from Neptune, and Day of the Daleks - where it was dated 1812. Certainly it was not during The Reign of Terror. The kidnapping is from The War Games, which states 1812.

1813

The Nemesis Statue again passes near Earth, possibly making Napoleon more warlike.

Silver Nemesis. The effect is suggested in The Terrestrial Index.

The Doctor meets Percy Shelley. Shelley was slightly overweight, but the Doctor considered him a better poet than Byron.

Managra. The date is completely arbitrary.

1815

Louisa Nettleton, aged 12, becomes the ward of Paolo Verconti on the death of her mother. She is taken to his ancestral home when he returns home from England.

The Ghosts of N-Space.

18th June

Wellington defeats Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. A Major General Fergus Lethbridge-Stewart is present at the battle. Afterwards, Wellington tells the Doctor that "the only thing sadder than a battle lost is a battle won."

The date is historical. General Lethbridge-Stewart's presence is mentioned by the Brigadier in The Dying Days chapter 10 and his first name and being a Major General is mentioned in The Scales of Injustice chapter 5 page 17. The quote from Wellington is said to have been made "just after" Waterloo by the fourth Doctor in The Eight Doctors (page 107).

1816

Lord Byron, Percy and Mary Shelley, Claire Godwin, and John Polidori swap ghost stories at the Villa Diodati.

According to The Devil Goblins from Neptune page 122. The date is given as 1816.

c. 1817

Ben Tolliver is born.

He is over 60 years old in Evolution (pages 3 and 5).

1818

THE GHOSTS OF N-SPACE

Louisa Nettleton commits suicide by walking off a cliff. This follows the accidental death of her lover Guiseppe. She becomes a ghost. At the same time, Maximilian escapes from imprisonment in N-space.

The date is given on page 63 and it is 157 years ago, according to the timing of Clancy's comet.

1820

Reverend Thomas Bright surveys the Nine Travellers stone circle. After this, Cessair of Diplos poses as Mrs Trefusis for 60 years before posing as Señora Camara.

The Stones of Blood. The date is uncertain.

3rd July

Florence Sundovik is born.

THE SANDS OF TIME

Napoleon Bonaparte nearly tells his friend Jean Tombier what he saw in the Great Pyramid in 1798, but then decides that nobody would believe him.

The date is given on page 220 (instalment 8, page 20).

1822

Peter Shelley dies.

Managra.

MARK OF THE RANI

The Rani was collecting brain fluid during the industrial revolution. She was thwarted by the Doctor. At the same time, the Doctor prevented the Master from changing history.

The dating information on this story is very confused. It is before the Stockton-Darlington line of September 1825 and after Thomas Liddel was made Baron Ravensworth on 17th July 1821. However, it includes Luddites, who would have been 30 years too late in an 1820's setting, and Thomas Edison, who was born in 1847. Kew Gardens wasn't open in the 1820's, as the story claims.

1824

Beau Brummel tells the first Doctor that he looks better in a cloak.

Beau Brummel is mentioned in The Sensorites and The Two Doctors. He lived 1778-1840. The exact date is arbitrary.

A creature dubbed "the Beast of Fang Rock" kills 2 lighthouse keepers and drives the third insane on Fang Rock island.

80 years before Horror of Fang Rock.

George Byron dies.

1826

Sir Edward Fulbright is born.

He is in his fifties in Evolution (page 31).

1827

A whaler in the new community on the Novrosk Penninsula sends a letter to his sister describing a mysterious death.

Minin mentions the letter in The Deviant Strain, page 58.

c. 1834

The Westminster Clock Tower (which contains the bell known as Big Ben) is built.

In The Clockwise Man (page 69), set 1924, the Doctor mentions that it is less than 100 years old. I've given the date that the old Palace of Westminster was destroyed because I don't have a date for when the new tower was finished.

1836

Professor Litefoot is born.

The Doctor thinks that he must be almost 60 by The Bodysnatchers page 39 (set in January 1894).

c. 1838-1841

Ten families from Lancashire founded the village of Dinorben in the valley three miles north-west of Llanfer Ceiriog. Their farming co-operative failed to produce a crop for three years. They then suffered a variety of problems, blamed on the locals, including their sheep being stolen and a huge beast ruining their crops. In the third summer, they disappeared. One of these families had a late-18th Century Bible.

This was in the mid-nineteenth century, according to Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark page 49. It has to be before the Hughes family arrive in the same valley (c. 1842) on page 48. The Bible is mentioned on page 115.

1838

The Doctor visits Queen Victoria's coronation. In the same year, the Nemesis Statue comes near Earth, possibly heralding the Opium Wars.

The Coronation is mentioned in The Curse of Peladon. The Statue is from Silver Nemesis, and the effect suggested in The Terrestrial Index.

1839

A Chinese Fowling Piece is fired for the last time. It will eventually be owned by Professor Litefoot.

50 years before The Talons of Weng Chiang.

1842

Augustus Fulbright restores parts of Fulbright Hall and adds a lot to the building.

According to Evolution page 8.

The Hughes family begins living in the valley three miles north-west of Llanfer Ceiriog.

This was 150 years before Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark page 48.

1843

The Doctor met Brunel, and gave Hans Christian Anderson the idea for The Emperor's New Clothes. The Doctor and Susan met Siger Holmes in India and learnt of the native belief in a gateway to another world. The seventh Doctor came and watched this conversation.

Brunel is mentioned in The Two Doctors and lived 1806-59. Anderson is mentioned in The Romans and lived 1805-75, publishing from 1835. The dates of these meetings are arbitrary. The Siger Holmes incident is the prologue & epilogue to All Consuming Fire & is dated on page 1.

1849

The future Lord Kenilworth is born.

He is 47 by The Sands of Time page 4 (instalment 1, page 5).

James McReady is born

He is said to be both approaching 50 and about Kenilworth's age by The Sands of Time page 102 (instalment 4, page 6).

A new shop called Harrods opens in London.

The Doctor says that this happened 47 years before The Sands of Time page 162 (instalment 6, page 18).

A greenhouse is built in a house in Allen Road, Kent.

It is referred to as 'Victorian' in Cat's Cradle: Warhead.

1851

The Great Exhibition takes place and the Doctor tries to visit it. Meanwhile, the America crosses the Atlantic in 17 days.

Jacob Grimm discovers the Law of Consonantal Shift.

State of Decay. Grimm lived 1785-1863.

1852

Victoria Waterfield is born.

According to Downtime her mum died in 1863, when she was 11.

1853

Saul, the living church of Cheldon Bonniface, is baptised in his own font by Reverend Dominic Trelaw and the first Doctor.

According to Timewyrm: Revelation page 4.

1854

J. Clark Maxwell & Michael Faraday experiments with electromagnetism and static electricity, which later helps Theodore Maxtible to develop time travel by 1865.

Evil of the Daleks.

25th October

The [first] Doctor witnesses the "magnificent folly" that was the Charge of the Light Brigade. The Doctor also claimed to have been wounded in the Crimea, which may well have been during the same visit. The War Lords lifted a Crimean War battlefield.

The Light Brigade was mentioned in Evil of the Daleks, the Doctor's wound in The Sea Devils and the War Lords' actions in The War Games. The Crimean war was 1853-56. The exact dates for the wound and abduction are arbitrary.

5 November

The uncle of Mollie, Theodore Maxtible's maid, is killed at the Battle of Inkerman in Crimea.

Evil of the Daleks.

Mr Golightly moves to London.

Old Josh spends 5 dollars on the elixir of life in Chicago. Within a week, he has lost 35 years, stopping in his twenties. He subsequently ages one year for every ten.

This happened when he was eighty in Short Trips and Side Steps: A Town Called Eternity.

Dorothy Frances Gurney is born.

The Doctor mentions this on page 13 of Option Lock, though he only gives the year.

Henry Gordon Jago begins working in the entertainment business.

This was 30 years before The Talons of Weng Chiang.

1860

Brigadier-General Litefoot visits China on a punitive expedition. His family, including his son, who will later become Professor Litefoot, stay there for 13 years. At this time, Magnus Greel arrives in China from the year 5000. Li H'sen Chang shelters him, believing him to be the god Weng Chiang. Greel's time cabinet was later given to Professor Litefoot's mother.

The Talons of Weng Chiang.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel dies.

This was twenty years before Evolution page 6.

The Palace of Wastminster is finished.

On page 27, it is said that the House of Commons (part of the Palace of Westminster), broadly speaking, hasn't changed much since its construction 300 years before 2169 on page 27 of Alien Bodies. In real life, it was rebuilt following a fire in 1834, and rebuilt between 1840 and 1860.

The Doctor once claimed that he had no idea what happened in this year.

The Malicious Damage Act is passed.

Alice Fulbright is born

She is 19 in Evolution (page 8).

1862

An American Civil War battlefield is stolen by The War Lords.

The War Games. The War was 1861-1865. The date is given on screen.

In Cardiff, a girl called Gwyneth loses both parents to the 'flu. She is taken in by the local undertaker, Mr Sneed.

She says that this when she was 12 in The Unquiet Dead. Her age is not stated, so I arbitrarily assume she's the same age as Rose, which is 19.

1863

The Nemesis Statue comes close to Earth. At around the same time, the Rani steals some brain fluid from the American Civil War era. Both events exacerbate the situation.

Silver Nemesis and Mark of the Rani. The effect of Nemesis was suggested in The Terrestrial Index.

19th November 1863

Abraham Lincoln delivers his Gettysburg Address.

As seen on the Time/Space Visualiser in The Chase.

23rd November 1863

Victoria Waterfield's mother Edith Rose dies.

This is mentioned in Evil of the Daleks and dated in Downtime.

The Doctor was friends with Thomas Huxley.

Logopolis. Huxley lived 1825-95. The date is arbitrary.

Margaret Evans is born.

She is in her early thirties by The Sands of Time page 101 (instalment 4, page 5).

1865

The Daleks trace Theodore Maxtible's time-travel experiments. They secure his assistance by promising the Philosophers Stone. They also kidnap Victoria Waterfield to secure her father Edward's support. Maxtible closes off the south wing of his home in order to do experiments with the Daleks.

This was 12 months before The Evil of the Daleks.

Rudyard Kipling, L.C. Dunsterville, and George Beresford are born.

They are all 15 in Evolution (page 45).

Lord Kelvin lays the first transatlantic telegraph cables.

This was fifteen years before Evolution page 107.

1866

2nd June

THE EVIL OF THE DALEKS

Theodore Maxtible and Edward Waterfield bring the Doctor and Jamie to 1866 from 1966 and, with the Daleks, force them to perform a series of tests to isolate the "human factor". These four and Victoria Waterfield are then taken through time and space to Skaro.

The date is given on screen.

K9 Mark 2 was programmed with every grandmaster chess game from 1866 onwards.

The Androids of Tara.

1867

The War Lords take a battlefield from the Mexican Uprising during this year.

The War Games. The date is historical.

1868

The [first] Doctor opens an account with the Coutts Bank in London. The seventh Doctor adds the value of Victoria Waterfield's estate.

This is from Birthright and DWM's Prelude to Birthright. The prelude suggests that the account was opened by Victoria and the seventh Doctor. However, by the time of Birthright, Susan, Sarah and Mel are co-signatories, so it has to have been set up when first Doctor was travelling with Susan.

Wychborn House burns down.

Strange England.

Lucy is born.

According to Evolution, she was about 10 (page 63) almost two years before page 64.

1869

Little Women is written.

A quote is heard in The Mind Robber episode 4.

THE UNQUIET DEAD

There is a ghostly apparition at a performance by Charles Dickens in Cardiff, and it causes the audience to flee in panic. Later that night, there is an explosion at local undertakers Sneed and Company, which destroys all the bodies in the morgue and kills the undertaker and his servant.

The Doctor gets the date from a newspaper.

1870

Robert & Donald Jameson go out onto Tullock Moor. Donald disappears, whilst Richard is found two days later, driven insane by what he saw. He never speaks again.

Terror of the Zygons.

Heinrich Schliemann and wife Sophia Engastrontenos begin excavating Troy.

The Stones of Blood.

Joshua Anders is born.

He is 10 in Evolution (page 85).

1871

Soldiers are taken from this year by the War Lords.

The year, but not the war, is mentioned. The most likely war is the Franco-Prussian war 1870-1871.

The Doctor meets Tsar Nicholas of Russia at the Drei Kaiser Bund - a meeting of the Emperors of Russia, Germany, and the Austo-Hungarian Empire. He suggests that Nicholas listen to the Liberation Movement - particularly Tolstoy and Stakhovich.

Or so he claims on page 51 of The Devil Goblins from Neptune.

SET PIECE

The Doctor, Ace, Benny and Kadiatu Lethbridge-Stewart prevent Ship from processing the entire universe. Ace decides to leave the Doctor and join the Paris Commune, being the last to leave the barricades when they fell.

The date is on page 62.

Reuben joins the lighthouse service and spends 20 of the next 30 years in gas lighthouses.

INVASION OF THE CAT PEOPLE

Atimkos, Polly and three students travel to this time from 1994 using two RTC units. They meet Udentkista and Tarwildbaning.

Atimkos says that they've just got back from 1874 on page 134. Tarwildbaning says that Udentkista was sure that Atimkos and/or Thorgarsunella would get there by 1875 on page 127.

1875

The Scarman family have a folly, called Old Priory, built complete with priestholes. Marcus and Laurence play in it as boys. The Doctor met Alexander Graham Bell.

The folly is from Pyramids of Mars and dated as Victorian. Graham Bell was mentioned in The Android Invasion, he lived 1847-1922 and patented the telephone in 1876. Both dates are arbitrary.

Mary Dobbs is born.

She is 18 by January 1894 according to The Bodysnatchers page 41.

c.1876

In one of a number of skirmishes in the sector, a Rutan fighter is shot down near Earth. It crashes in Limehouse, England. Percival Ross retrieves a vial of Rutan healing fluid from the burning wreckage.

This happened a few years before Evolution. I have allowed just enough time for Percival to work out how the fluid works, and for his brother to break up his scheme in London.

1878

January 1878

Cleopatra's Needle is lost on its journey from Alexandria to London. However, its wooden casket is found floating in the ocean and is towed to London.

According to The Sands of Time page 282 (instalment 10, page 17), which gives the month.

By this time, the pirate planet Zanak has destroyed Bandraginus V and its Vegan shipyard. [Over the next hundred years] it also destroys Aterica, Temesis, Tridentio III, Lowiteliom, Bibicorpus and Granados.

Bandraginus V was destroyed over a hundred years before The Pirate Planet. I arbitrarily assume that Bandraginus was the first. The shipyards are mentioned in First Frontier.

Lucy is the first child to be changed by Percival Ross.

This happened almost two years before Evolution page 64.

1879

Johnny Ringo begins a search for Doc Holliday and Ringo's ex-lover Kate.

This was two years before The Gunfighters.

A Greld named Brokk steals three ampules from the Semquess. His ship is caught in the Sol system. He destroys his pursuer but is forced to crash-land on Earth.

Eye of the Giant. Brokk has been on Earth for over 20,000 days.

Alexander Graham Bell demonstrates the telephone to Queen Victoria, and Thomas Edison invents the electric lightbulb.

Both happened a year before Evolution (pages 108 and 136 respectively).

TOOTH AND CLAW

Queen Victoria's annual train journey to Balmorral is interrupted by a tree on the line. She travels to Torchwood House by coach, and her host Sir Robert dies whilst she is there, as do several of the household's staff and some of her escort. Rumours that the deaths were caused by a werewolf circulate around the area. As a result of these events, Victoria resolves to create the Torchwood Institute to deal with unexplained events.

Victoria has survived six assassination attempts, making it between 1872 and 1882. The Doctor claims that it's 1879, having aimed for 1979. However, it's unclear what evidence he's basing his guess on. Tie-in websites confirm the Doctor's date.

1880

THE SANDS OF TIME

George Vulliamy's bronze sphinxes are added to Cleopatra's Needle. However, whilst the original plaster Sphinxes were facing outwards, the workmen place the nex sphinxes facing inwards.

This is dated on page 282 (instalment 10, page 17).

EVOLUTION

Ben Tulliver dies in mysterious circumstances, attacked by two creatures from the sea. At the same time, Alice Fulbright becomes engaged to Lieutenant Roger Bridewell and a mysterious dog-like beast kills several animals on Dartmoor.

The date is given on page 6. It's a week before term starts on page 84. Kipling is 15, which also places it in 1880. Sarah reckons it's 1880, a year after Bell's telephone demonstration, on page 108. Conan Doyle lived 1859-1930.

1881

Inspector Mackenzie disappears after investigating bizarre goings on at Gabriel Chase.

This was two years before Ghost Light.

American humorist Franklin Adams is born.

The Seeds of Doom.

Doc Holliday shoots Reuben Clanton.

Some time before The Gunfighters.

25-26 October

THE GUNFIGHTERS

Jonny Ringo finds Doc Holliday in Tombstone, Texas. Events climax with a shoot-out at the OK Corral.

The date is historical.

Robert Louis Stevenson writes Treasure Island.

A printing of the book is seen in The Mind Robber episode 4.

Mario Verconti is born.

He is 92 in The Ghosts of N-Space (page 14).

24th December

Dorothée is at the Café Momus in the Latin Quarter of Paris with George Seurat, when she becomes aware that she is being watched.

This was on Christmas Eve, well over a century before events in 2001, according to Lungbarrow pages 11-12 / Chapter 1 page 3. Seurat lived 1859/1891. The exact year is arbitrary.

1883

The first Doctor meets Gilbert and Sullivan.

Inside the Spaceship. They collaborated 1875-1896. The exact date is arbitrary.

The Doctor witnesses the eruption of Krakatoa & hears "Primords".

Inferno. The date is historical.

A picture of the ninth Doctor washes up on a beach in Sumatra

In Rose, Clive claims that this was the day Krakatoa erupted.

The Rani kidnaps Louis Pasteur for her time brain.

Time and the Rani. Pasteur lived 1822-95. The date is arbitrary.

GHOST LIGHT

Josiah Smith disappears from his house, Gabriel Chase. Rumours of hauntings, mesmerism, plots to kill the queen, ape-men and angels follow. The house remains abandoned for a century.

Two years after 1881 & a century before ace burns down Gabriel Chase in 1983.

Geoffrey Greystone marries Lady Edith Howarth.

A Graske arrives in a London street and replaces a beggar boy with a duplicate. It is unclear whether the substitution was temporary.

Herbert George Wells travels to the future of the planet Karfel and later returns to his own timezone.

The TARDIS briefly lands in Victorian England.

Robert tells the Doctor that it's Christmas Day 1885 on page 154.

Following a minor earth tremor, Sarah Brown discovers the fountain of youth not far from the Brown ranch.

Six months before Short Trips and Side Steps: A Town Called Eternity.

SHORT TRIPS AND SIDE STEPS: A TOWN CALLED ETERNITY

Mysterious beasts attack animals near the town of Eternity. The Sheriff lays an ambush for them, but is killed. A new Sheriff takes over. Four days later, two of Iziah Brown's wives dies in mysterious circumstances, the new Sheriff disappears, and the animals are never seen again.

The Doctor says that it's the 1880s on page 13. Old Josh was born 110 years ago, a week before the Declaration of Independence on page 17.

Additions are made to the church in Crook Marsham.

Some of the additions are Victorian, according to the Doctor in Nightshade, page 32. The exact date is arbitrary.

1887

ALL CONSUMING FIRE

Pope Leo XIII hires Sherlock Holmes and Watson to investigate thefts from the library of St. John the Beheaded. The trail leads to India and a gateway to the world of Ry'leh.

The date is on page 5 & page 153. Dialogue indicates that it's after The Talons of Weng Chiang (1889), though this could possibly be referring to other events. Before this story, the Doctor once claimed to have met Holmes (Timewyrm: Revelation), but this would have to be later in Holmes' timeline).

The Polish Occultist Zarrenhof invents a 'universal language' called Esperanto.

According to the Doctor in Legacy of the Daleks.

1888

The first Doctor gains a medical degree in Glasgow under Lister.

According to The Moonbase (which gives the date), presumably this was before 100,000 BC. System Shock places this in 1880, when Lister actually was at Glasgow. This is, however, probably a typo on the Doctor's part.

The Doctor spars with John L. Sullivan.

Carnival of Monsters. The date is uncertain.

THE PIT

The Doctor and William Blake discover the truth about [some of] the Jack the Ripper murders.

Blake finds a paper dated 13th September 1888. However, Matrix offers a different perspective on the cause of these events.

The Nemesis Statue approaches Earth, possibly heralding various late 19th century wars.

Silver Nemesis. The effects were suggested in The Terrestrial Index.

1889

The Women's Franchise League is formed.

According to The Bodysnatchers page 42.

Mary Dobbs begins working as a housemaid for the Seers family.

Four years before The Bodysnatchers page 42.

Joseph Buller marries Emma Gusset. They move in with Emma's mother.

This was six months before The Talons of Weng Chiang.

Henry Gordon Jago's wife spends £17 and thruppence on her wardrobe. Emma Buller is hypnotised by Li H'Sen Chang during a show at the London Palace Theatre.

THE TALONS OF WENG CHIANG

Following a series of disappearances of young girls, Henry Gordon Jago and Professor Litefoot investigate and track down the culprit - Magnus Greel from the 51st century.

This happens after Jack the Ripper (1888). References to the Ripper being in Canada suggest that it may be the same time as Prince Albert Victor's tour of the colonies, late 1889-may 1890. On the other hand, there are references to this story in All Consuming Fire, set in 1887. The Bodysnatchers (page 37) establishes this as about five years before January 1894.

The last recorded human sacrifice occurs in Moreton Harwood.

The Doctor takes boxing lessons from John L Sullivan

The Doctor mentions, but doesn't date, this event in Carnival of Monsters episode 2. I've dated it to the year Sullivan was heavyweight boxing champion.

Christmas 1893

The Christmas edition of The Strand contains the original printing of the pivotal Sherlock Holmes story The Final Problem

According to The Bodysnatchers page 12.

Nathaniel Seers, owner of a bottle-making factory changes. When one of his employees injures his hand in an accident at the factory, Seers sacks him on the spot instead of offering his usual philanthropy.

This was three weeks before The Bodysnatchers page 6, and just before Christmas on page 55.

11th January - 13th January 1894

THE BODYSNATCHERS

Professor Litefoot is asked to examine the body of Tom Donahue, which was found in the Thames. Shortly after this, the Seers Superior Bottles factory on the Thames is burnt down, and many East-Enders report seeing giant lizards eating people.

The TARDIS says that it is arriving on "11.01.1894" on page 15. It is six years since Jack the Ripper on page 2, Christmas was about a month ago on pages 5-6, and three weeks ago on page 6. The Talons of Weng-Chiang was five years ago, according to Litefoot on page 37. It is 13 January 1894 by page 173.

1894

Tower Bridge is built.

The Doctor says that it is less than 25 years before The Clockwise Man page 69, which is set in 1924. I've used the historical date it was finished, rather than the Doctor's date.

1895

Umberto Callanti is born.

The Ghosts of N-Space (page 39).

The British Government learns of Extraterrestrial lifeforms.

According to the Brigadier, this was over a century before The Dying Days (1997) chapter 4, page 8. The actual date is arbitrary.

Hulton College School is either founded or moves into a new building. It acquires the motto Maius Intra Qua Extra - bigger on the inside than on the outside.

According to Joan, it's been in its current building for eighteen years before Human Nature page 170 (April 1914). It's unclear whether this was the start of the school or whether the school moved building and changed its motto.

Abner joins Joanna Harris' vampire coven.

Barely over a century before Vampire Science page 150.

Lord Kenilworth sets out on an expedition to Egypt

Four months before The Sands of Time page 47 (instalment 2, page 6).

September 1896

THE SANDS OF TIME

Lord Kenilworth is joined by his butler Atkins and a stranger called the Doctor in his expedition to Egypt. They uncover an Egyptian tomb with various artefacts, including a mummy. However, traps within the tomb and walking mummies kill two expedition members and one of their Egyptian workers.

The date is given on page 4 (Installment 1 page 5). Lord Kenilworth set out from Egypt going home seven weeks before November the ninth on page 159 (instalment 6, page 16).

Sunday 9th November - Monday 10th November 1896

THE SANDS OF TIME

Lord Kenilworth's Egyptian expedition arrives back in London and unloads its finds. Lord Kenilworth keeps the mummy, and arranges for it to be unwrapped.

The date of the unwrapping is given on page 29 (instalment 1, page 30). The date of the arrival back in London is given on page 159 (installment 6, page 16).

January 1897

The body of Simons crumbles into dust in an Egyptian tomb.

The date is given on page 174 (instalment 6, page 32).

28th December 1897

The play Cyrano de Bergerac is first performed in Paris.

Bergerac appears in the land of fiction in episode five of The Mind Robber.

1898

12th January

Florence Sundvik dies.

Mary Eliza Millington is born on the 3rd of March and dies on the 7th of March.

Reverend Wainwright translates the Viking runes in the crypt of his church.

All three events are mentioned in The Curse of Fenric. This Reverend Wainright was the grandfather of the Reverend Wainwright we see in the story. The exact date and year of the translation is arbitrary. Other dates are from tombstones.

12th May

Edmund Trevithick is born.

By Nightshade page 8, he is 70, and the exact date is given on page 111.

1900

17th May

The first Doctor visits the Relief of Mafeking.

The Daleks' Masterplan and The Invasion of Time. This must be after Planet of Giants, where he claims that he's never been to Africa.

The War Lords lifted battlefields from the Boxer Uprising and the Boer War.

The War Games. The Boer War was 1899-1902. The Boxer Uprising was in 1900. Possibly they kidnapped soldiers from both wars and assumed that they were from the same war, easing the problem that the number of zones doesn't add up.
